Manitoba singer-songwriter Daniel ROA is nominated in the Meilleur album de l’Ouest canadien (Best Album in Western Canada) category, for his sophomore release, Hyperbole. The album took home Best Francophone Album at the Western Canadian Music Awards in Regina last October.

The bi-annual Gala takes place to honour excellence and musical richness in francophone Ontario and Western Canada. The prizes will be awarded at the Gala on March 21st at 7:30pm at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Ottawa. It will also be broadcast live at 7:30pm on Radio-Canada and Espace Musique in Ontario, and rebroadcast at 7:30pm local time in Western Canada.

“The song Popsicle was originally written in English, but was translated into French in order to include it my album Hyperbole in 2011”, says Daniel ROA. “This gives me a chance to offer a little something to my English-speaking fans, all the while allowing me to present the song in its original form!” The single is available as of today on iTunes as well as Bandcamp, and the video can be viewed from the artist’s official YouTube page.

Faced with stiff competition in both the musical and industry divisions, Daniel was honoured with Francophone Recording of the Year for his sophomore album, Hyperbole. He was also nominated for:

Daniel’s first album, Le nombril du monde, won the 2009 WCMA for Francophone Recording of the Year.

The WCMAs are part of breakout West, a 3-day music festival, conference, and awards event that celebrates, honours, and promotes the musical talents of the Yukon, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Daniel ROA was a performer in Saturday’s Festival lineup.

Edith Butler, for whom this prize is named, is an acclaimed Acadian singer-songwriter, an Officer of the Order of Canada, and recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. The prize is generously sponsored by Astral Media Radio.

The Fondation SPACQ’s 7th Annual Awards Gala was held on Friday, September 28th at the National Bank Tower in Montreal, QC.

Established in 1981, SPACQ (Société professionnelle des auteurs et des compositeurs du Québec) is an association of Quebec songwriters and composers, and today has more than 700 members.

The Manitoba Music Showcase is part of Canadian Blast, an initiative of CIMA and the Canada Stand. Daniel is joined by fellow Manitobans Les Jupes, along with 13 other musical acts from across the country, forming the largest ever delegation of Canadian artists to perform at MIDEM. Winnipeg pop singer-songwriter Daniel ROA is preparing the release of his second album, Hyperbole, accompanied by a video and brand new show.

The new show for Hyperbole has us rediscovering Daniel ROA’s inner performer.  A show with a capital ‘S’, in it, you’ll find a bit of everything — multi-instrumentations, projections, choreography and much more!  As always, Daniel promises to deliver a saucy groove, with energy, fun, and an ever-present wink.  The album release will take place in three cities, all with a full presentation of the new show.  Firstly, in his native Winnipeg, on November 24th, he will be at the CCFM in a double-bill with Alex Nevsky of Montreal.  Secondly, Daniel will be in Ottawa on the Fourth Stage of the National Arts Centre on November 30th.  And finally, he will wrap up with a third release party in Montreal on December 1st at O Patro Vys.  The album will be available on iTunes as of November 24th.

It is by a pure love of language and its infinite richness that Daniel ROA gave life to the first single of the new album.  The song, Alphabête, tells an almost esoteric story of a songwriter who willfully delves into the inner depths of his dictionary, searching for that ever evasive mot juste.  The song is yours to discover, as is the hilarious video which gives us insight into the mind of Daniel ROA.

Manitoba-based folk-pop trio KIN released today their first video, for their new song Coastal Friend.  Directed by Randy Frykas, and featuring the band, as well as bassist and friend Julian Bradford, the video is the culmination of several months of work by several people.  The song Coastal Friend, in English, is the trio’s most recent, which usually presents bilingual shows.

KIN’s lead vocalist Danielle Burke and brothers Ivan and Eric charm French and English audiences alike with their smart song-writing and spectacular musical precision. The band has recorded a CBC Canada Live concert with Juno-award winners Chic Gamine, has played numerous times at Festival du Voyageur, and has recently returned from Whitehorse where their most recent album garnered a nomination for Francophone Album of the Year at this year’s Western Canadian Music Awards.
